Onda Films is the sister company of Pigeon Productions, a leader in the Hispanic production industry for over 20 years. Pigeon was formed and led my Mercedes and her partner & brother, director Luis Palomo. From 1983 through 2001, Pigeon was a preferred vendor for Sears, Roebuck, and Company shooting in dozens of stores throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, including Plaza de las Americas – the third largest & busiest mall in Latin America. Additionally, Onda has shot for Colgate Palmolive, Verizon Wireless, Heineken Beer, WalMart, The Home Depot, KFC Restaurants, Toyota CARS , among many others.

The Palomo’s have also created an impressive portfolio of stock images for Getty Images.

Producers

Mercedes Palomo

MERCEDES PALOMO – Twenty years after founding the highly acclaimed production company Pigeon Productions together with her brother Luis in Miami, Executive Producer Mercedes Palomo decided to open her own company, Ondafilms to bring a fresher personality along with an updated roster of directors to a new generation of commercial production professionals.

Besides TV commercials & music videos, the companies have produced a feature film, Feliz Christmas, Merry Navidad, a coming of age feature shot in Mexico.  The Palomo’s have also shot and continue to produce stock images for Getty Images.  Ondafilms produces TV shows and longer format projects such as the 1-hour documentary Raising Hope: The Equal Voice Story which aired on PBS in 2010.

Mercy as she is known by most served as the President of the Florida Chapter of the AICP (Association of Independent Commercial Producers), with the distinction of being the first Hispanic person to hold that position. She continues her active role in the South Florida production community, producing TV commercials for Colgate Palmolive, The Home Depot and Walmart among other fortune 500 companies.

Mercedes graduated Cum Laude in Communications from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut.  She is fluent in English and Spanish.  Her interests include fine art, travel, real estate as well as mentoring women in the film industry.

Maria Bures

Maria Burés is a television producer with vast experience ranging from commercials to series. She has mastered every part of production including directing, budgeting and the infinitely complex logistics of high-end commercial spots.

For the past six years, Maria helmed two social engagement initiatives at Univision, Health Week and Education Week, which integrated content across all of the network’s platforms – television, digital, radio and social media. Health Week was a health and wellness effort designed to engage and inform the US Hispanic community on important health topics. Similarly, Education Week was designed to cover the educational continuum from early childhood through college completion. The award-winning initiatives featured 25-40 original packages, as well as the integration of live guests and live Town Hall meetings.

For over twenty years, Maria was an executive producer at Pigeon Productions/Onda Films where she produced and directed a wide variety of television, corporate and commercial content. Highlights include Raising Hope: The Equal Voice Story, a one- hour documentary that follows the Marguerite Casey Foundation’s Equal Voice for America’s Families campaign, a family-led movement to improve the economic well- being of working class and poor families in America that aired on PBS; Casas, a thirteen-part television series on Latin American architecture and interior design for the Discovery Latin America; interstitials for Discovery Health; promotional content for Disney Latin America and Care Plus Health Plans and educational films for diverse clients such as the Wein Center for Memory Disorders, the South Florida Water Management District and many others. Additionally, Maria executive produced over 600 commercial spots collaborating with top advertising directors and director of photographers where she had an opportunity to hone her artistic vision and develop a command of imagery and graphics.

A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute in filmmaking and photography, Maria has produced personal films that have been exhibited in film festivals and art galleries. She is also a community activist involved in political and LGBT organizations.

Giselle Yiya Garcia

Giselle Johnson’s career as Producer began in 1998, as a Production Coordinator for Ilumina Films, when a summer job turned into a full-time job. While in Ilumina, she had the opportunity to develop budgeting and management skills working with projects in both the American and International markets.

She soon extended her wings and started freelancing as Production Manager for companies like Ilumina Films, Chakra Films, AFI Filmworks, and Peliculas Ponder among others.

In 2004, she was hired as Executive Producer at Letca Films. In the three years she worked with Letca, she produced shoots for brands like US Navy, Home Depot, Time Warner Cable, Visa, Nestle, and Chevrolet. She traveled extensively overseeing projects in New York, Los Angeles, Mexico, Argentina and the Caribbean.

For the last 10 years, she has made a name in the industry as a freelancer producer for her work ethics and engaging personality. She has managed broadcast, interactive and print projects, as Line Producer or Print Producer. She has worked for Agencies such as

Alma DDB and Macias Advertising. She has worked with many well-known directors and Brands.

She lives in Miami and It’s married and has two kids.

Directors

Fredy Garza

Fredy started directing at only 23 years old while he was also working as a cinematographer for other directors and himself. In 2001 he founded Tribu Films, which was one of the most important production companies in Latin America for over a decade and launched many of the most successful directors in Mexico. In 2010, through a merge between Tribu and Catatonia Films, he founded Catatonia Comuna.

In 2012 HOME FILMS opens its doors with an excellent response, this company has established itself quickly as one of the most relevant in the Mexican market. It combines the experience of companies, producers, and directors.

Fredy created a content department within HOME FILMS, and is currently working on TV series, documentaries, sitcoms and films. He has been a finalist on several occasions in Cannes and has won awards at the most important festivals including FIAP, Creative Circle, London Film Festival, NY Film Festival.

His narrative style and versatility capture everyday life situations in a realistic and sensible way. Beyond his excellent feel for beauty and fashion, his spirit of adventure has taken him around the world as an artist making still photography, and working as a director in Europe, South America, and the USA.

Fredy has directed over 700 commercials for clients like the Bank of Mexico, Banamex, Danone, Pepsico, Orbit, Kellogg’s, Telcel, National Geographic and other reputable clients.

Alvaro Quevedo

Born in Perú. He studied Communications at the National Institute of Telecommunications of Peru, Arts at Bellas Artes of Peru, Cinematography at the University of Baltimore (UB). He also studied courses of “Interpretation for actors” by the Spanish actor, director and playwright Andres Lima and countless and master hours on set.

His talent has taken him to direct TV commercials at the U.S., Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Ghana, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Panama, while his commercials have been sent to different countries of the Asian continent.

Quevedo is a director who has managed to mark an esthetic, kinetic, narrative and precious style, building up a versatile and unequal portfolio which is the result of working constantly at different cultures of a variety of countries and of generating a great scenery of work based on his personality filled of energy, sensibility, good humor and passion.

Kenneth O’Brien

Peruvian Director/Editor Kenneth O’Brien-Llontop, studied Filmmaking at Toulouse Lautrec in Lima, where he specialized in directing actors and in Post-Production.

Upon getting his degree, he moved to Miami to work as Editor-in-Chief at Pigeon Productions, a prestigious production company. In 2006, after an Emmy™ Award nomination for his post-production work, he started to gain momentum as Director with several commercials, short films, documentaries, music videos, and campaigns for the Hispanic market in the US.

In 2007, he directed his first feature film Runway Duels which was selected by several festivals, including the Festival de cine de Cancún and the Delray Beach Film Festival. At the time, he also wrote and directed the short film Detrás de mis ojos, featuring at several festivals, including the Rhode Island International Film Festival and the Festival de Cine de Lima and scooping up prizes such as Best Short Film at the Florida Media Market Global Conference.

Director with an Editor’s mind and Editor with a Director’s mindset, Kenneth was also nominated for a Latin Grammy™ in 2012 on the “Best Music Video” category for his directorial work on “En el Tiempo” a song from Colombian singer Rakel. He is also being awarded The Telly Award, The Communicator Award, and The Addy’s 2011 and 2012 for his work on advertising. Currently, he manages Filmiko, his own production company in Miami and participates as an academic consultant at Toulouse Lautrec in Lima.

Sherman Johnson

Director of Photography Sherman Johnson started out in independent film with his first feature in 2002. He moved into commercials in 2005 with a pair of award-winning campaigns and since shot over 500 commercials. Recently, he won a 2016 Cannes Lion for Filmcraft in Cinematography for Huawei “Shark Dancer” directed by Juriaan Booij of RSA Films.

Andres Garzas

I was born in Madrid, Spain and moved to the Unites States in 2013. I played actively Chess when I was a child and I had a good time playing as an amateur actor at School.  I started shooting Super 8 family trips and events then I got a still camera and discovered a huge way to express emotions and sculpture time. I worked as a PA, camera trainee, assistant camera an after many years I stepped up to become full time Cinematographer. I am honest and reliable and I put all my efforts in every project because filming is my life.

I am focus on narrative work, but I love other genres. I try always to do my best, that´s why I am always working on improving my skills.

I completed both his BA and MA at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria (Spain). My later studies includes a cinematography workshop with Shane Hurlbut ASC. Other studies that I took were Cinematography Masterclass (Hungary) by Vilmos Zgismond ASC, Maine Media Film School (US) by Stephen Fierberg ASC and Rodney Taylor ASC and Escuela de Cine y TV San Antonio de los Baños (Cuba)by Gabo Kerlegand and Salvador Melita among others. I also got an Assimilate Scratch Certification in Color Correction.

Some of the projects that I had the opportunity to help as cinematographer have been recognized at Cannes Lions, Palm Springs Film Festival, LA Film Festival, LA Reel Festival, La Cinema Festival of Hollywood, New York Manhattan Film Festival, AMPE Awards, Promaxbda Europe and Latin America, El Sol, Canada Film Festival, Festival de Málaga, among others.
